THE MORTAL THOR #6 (Marvel Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 6th issue of The Mortal Thor from Marvel Comics!

The story thus far has been about Sigurd Jarlson, the man who looks like Thor and wields a hammer about as effectively as Thor does. Sigurd has been trying to just make a living and get by in his everyday life, but just about everyone is getting in his way to stop him. So with that said, let’s jump into it!

Credit: Marvel Comics // The Mortal Thor #4 by Al Ewing (Writer), Pasqual Ferry (Artist), Matt Milla (Color Artist) & VC's Joe Sabino (Letterer) is a gripping thriller of a story that ends on a great cliffhanger.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

The Story

The action that started in the previous issue does not let up in this one, and continues through out the entirety of the story. I will say, as someone who is not a fan of snakes, this issue made my skin crawl a little bit! However, that did not detract from just how good the issue is.

The issue features Sigurd going up against none other than King Cobra, who is a villain long time fans should be very familiar with. With such a familiar foe coming to fight Sigurd, the issue and the battle have a classic Thor feel to it. Seeing Sigurd fight and deal with King Cobra despite having none of the abilities and powers that Thor does really does add some interesting

There is of course the ending of the issue and what is seen by an interested individual. Nothing good can come from their revelation about Sigurd, and it’s sure to come back to haunt him in a future issue. The only question will be what the outcome is going to be.

The Artwork

Pasqual Ferry & Matt Milla continue to astound me with just how good their artwork is in the series. It has such a unique style and look to it, that it really sets it apart from other comics on the stands right now. I really like the way color was used in the issue because it helped give it a sense of foreboding and dread that something bad was coming.

FINAL POINT: Al Ewing continues to dig deep into the Marvel mythos and it pays off spectacularly. The story continues to impress and the artwork is continuously on point. This a series that never fails to impress me with how good it is.

Overall Grade: 9/10
