The Mortal Thor #13 (Marvel Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 13th issue of The Mortal Thor from Marvel Comics!

The story thus far has been about Sigurd Jarlson, the man who looks like Thor and wields a hammer about as effectively as Thor does. However this issue is going to focus on Magni Thorson, the NEW all father in Asguard! Let’s jump into it!

The Story

This issue decides to take things in a different direction for the story, and it doesn’t exactly land as you would hope. Al Ewing decides to focus on Magni Thorson, who’s just recently been appointed as the new All Father. It feels like a step backwards for the story overall being told, and it’s hard to see just how this will all tie into things in the immediate future.

Overall, the story drags on for far too long with not a lot going on development wise and overall didn’t really impress me all that much. The ending overall was probably the most interesting part as it pertains to the future of Asguard. It’s a shame this issue didn’t deliver more, because it’s legacy issue #799 and that of course means the next one is #800 for Thor. Hopefully the 800th issue will deliver better than this one did.

The Artwork

Juann Cabal & Matt Milla are in charge of the art for this issue and despite the lackluster story, the artwork is as stellar as you would expect. It keeps a lot of the same looks you would expect from the series at this point, and is a joy to look at.

Overall Grade: 6/10

A misstep of an issue from an otherwise reliable series. Hopefully it can bounce back for issue #800 cause this one does not give me confidence as to that being the case.
