Queen In Black: Defenders of Light And Dark #1 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the FIRST issue of Queen In Black: Defenders of Light And Dark #1 from Marvel Comics!
What happens when you have Beta Ray Bill, Iron Man AND Cable team up together? Well it makes for quite possibly the most interesting team in Marvel history. However when they’re having to go up against Hela AND Knull, then desperate times call for desperate measures. Let’s jump into it!

The Story
It is highly recommended that you read Queen In Black #1 BEFORE you read this issue, as certain plot points won’t make sense.
It’s a solid issue that builds off of the strong start from Queen In Black #1 and leads into an action packed story in this issue. For as slow burn as Queen In Black #1 was, this issue is the polar opposite in every way. It’s a fast paced issue that brings together a cast of heroes that might be the most interesting group I’ve ever seen. Sure, there’s a few I’d pick if I were putting the team together. However there’s also a few that I probably wouldn’t have thought of initially.
The story really excels in the battle moments with our heroes when they go against Hela & Knull, and when they start to realize just how out of their depth they are. Sure, they come up with a plan but we all know how plans against Knull usually go don’t we. The end of the issue is also VERY interesting with it’s shocking end. I figured something like that would happen, but I didn’t expect it so fast. It just goes to show that Al Ewing is not pulling any punches when it comes to this story.
The Artwork
Ze Carlos & Fernando Sifuentes are in charge of the artwork for this issue and they do a great job keeping the same look fans will be used to by this point. They do a great job with the action sequences and keeping you on the edge of your seat with what’s going to happen in the next panel. There’s also the last two panels which are simply stunning and easily the highlight of the issue.
Overall Grade: 8/10
A great follow up issue that raises the stakes even further and set’s the stage for an explosive continuation. A great story, together with artwork that is spectacular make this an issue you don’t want to pass up on.
