*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
writing:
Craig conveys the mounting pressures put on Kent’s shoulders with his latest moves. The opening sequence teases more problems are on the way. His laidback persona never lets this affect him as he tries having a normal life. A random night out proves eventful as Hazel, a singer takes notice of him. Their interactions are as awkward as one can imagine. This gets worse till duty comes calling.
The writing shows another key player make her debut. Lois Lane’s entry into the story shows her tough grit as the social themes of the time try degrading her. Lane’s tough stance puts the chauvinistic men in the office a thing or two about respect. This segways to a more frightening look at Clark. After thwarting an exploitation of the poor, a disturbing dream takes flight. It is interrupted by Lex Luthor’s insanity & scheming. The writing doesn’t hold back on the unhinged nature. It sets up more danger with a devilish smile to close with.

art and lettering
The art style keeps its classic look while bring Clark into his next phase. Images show his wonder as he sees people enjoying holiday time in the city. Hazel’s panels jumps out with the coloring locking in on the jazz feel of the club. The use of shadows gives an intimate sense as they move to Clark’s apartment. Napolitano’s lettering moves events to the streets where Superman feels more comfortable fighting for good.
Lois’s panels show her straight-forward grit as the other reporters try intimidating. Coloring brightens events up while her reactions never break. Superman makes his real appearance via half page panel. His brief skirmish with a evil landlord moves him to a surprising smile as he realizes destiny. It’s upended by the dream art. Shaking things up gets the spotlight on Lex Luthor to close. A solid two page spread unleashes his madness while dealing with a small matter. The attention on his facials shows how frantic his plans are. If anyone doubts how far gone Luthor is,, the closeup of his dead stare speaks volumes to wrap events with.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
Superman sees a higher calling while helping the voiceless as the Golden Age reveals more dangers. Craig hones in on the weight of hope & vintage looks guiding the way. A vastly different take on the Man Of Steel mythos.
