If you haven’t read Action Comics #1100, it is a wise idea to check that out first to get a full understanding of events here. Campbell does a fantatsic job in getting readers caught up to speed for the most part. Zod’s recap was impactful for establishing his motivations. Kara’s internal dialogue covers much ground heading into El Caldero. It showcases her doubts and growing confidence in a world without her famous cousin.

The issue jumps back a few hours to show more fallout from Action #1100. Seeing her navigate between the massive egos for CK and Connor Kent is a job onto itself. After calming everyone down. Kara unites some allies to asses the problem in El Caldero. The writing sees Kara get some divine assistance before adding more to her ranks. Readers see some familiar faces form the Supergirl series added into play. This moves events to the intended confrontation. Once here, Campbell balances the chaos with more light-hearted moments. The close does lean into the more dire territory needed as Zod’s plans go into effect. Readers get left with a solid cliffhanger after a steady build. Can’t ask for more from an initial starting point.

ACTION COMICS #1100!

The art team opens with some bold full images recapping recent events. Using taped footage as Zod’s story is told was clutch in presentation. The use of Kryptonite as panels was a key touch. A magnificent full shot of Supergirl in space needs to be made into a poster. Readers get an early sense of the gravitas of what is about to transpire. From here, there’s many moving parts to deal with.

The resolution from CK and Connor’s fighting gets a full page to begin. It indicates their deep anger issues while Kara steps in to mediate. A full shot of her back-up seals the fight’s stoppage for now. The moment serves as a pivoting point to get the story aligned with the events of El Caldero in Action #1100. Panels carry an enjoyable vibe as they aren’t as serious as the opening. It helps to transition a few players into the more serious conflict arising. Zod’s full page introduction kicks off fast action. Readers get treated to some great team-up panels before Zod plays another card. A new character joins the fight via full page. It speeds events into the closing stages as the heroes find themselves in deeper water than they thought.

FINAL GRADE: 8.4

Kara leads an army into hostile territory as Zod’s plans of vengeance begin! Campbell nails the impactful points while balancing the lighter moments. The art team exemplify the iconic shots heading into the conflict. Get ready for a battle of epic proportions!
