Ever since his debut in 1938, the adventures of Krypton’s last son have wowed fans for decades. In its’ current incarnation, the book has focused on the early days of Superboy. Tying into the future events of DC K.O., there has been more trouble than young Clark Kent could fathom.
Now depowered and facing Epoch with a literal home made armor, Superboy’s future may not make it through the celebration.

“Mission Failure” by Waid, Patridge, Sook, Plascencia, and Wands”
The current storyline with Epoch comes to a steady finish while delivering the best of the vintage beliefs of Superman. Even when the chips are down, Clark never stops fighting. The writing never lets the eternal hope leave anyone’s thoughts. It projects itself into a clever comeback with a true feel good moment to wrap up the fight on. It is everything you would want at this stage. Patridge brings this to form with exceptional panels. The group shot of the “team” sets a high pace to bring in the energized action with.

Once Sook takes over art duties in this portion, the story plays like a love letter to fans. There are so many iconic moments brought to life in this span. The first flight by the Daily Planet, a team-up with Batman right to the tragic “death”, the art shines in these panels. Waid’s script nails each key point through Superboy’s novice eyes. It leads into a noble act of kindness which turns into something far greater than realized.
“Superman meets Superboy” by Williamson, Sampere, Sánchez & Wands
The long awaited return of the true Superman unfolds here with such a great twist. Readers watch as the timestream becomes the great adversary to the Kal-El’s. It leads to a epic heroic escape and reunion. Sampere’s panel of Superman hugging Booster Gold is gonna hit with fans. Williamson’s writing shows how Superman faced the fallout of DC K.O. to realizing who was the true hero in all of this. It’s a real glimpse inside the soul of a reborn hero. The story wraps on a high note with a true Superman ending attached.
“Game Night” by Campbell, Mora, Bonvillain and Carry
A fun break form the norm that is very well placed in the chapter. With recent events surrounding Kara Zor-El, some “super bonding” over video games is not a bad thing. Her discussion with Lois Lane opens up some aspects of the new stat quo before a real party crasher hits the scene. Campbell brings in Superboy-Prime for the hijinks and drama. It results in tempers flaring with Connor Kent. Knowing their history, Mora’s art opens up the old wounds. It ends with an iconic full page image that can only lead to more trouble.
“End Of Reign” by Slott, Meyer, Peratelli and Sharpe
This story takes place in Slott’s El Caldero storyline. Castilho’s quest for more control has been a growing problem since Superman invaded the new nation. His words at the keepers of the House of El fall on deaf ears. The writing shows his blind arrogance and he barks at those around him. “Bruno” comes off as a loyal soldier during this ordeal. Meyer’s art gives a great full page recap of how Castilho rose to power. It results in a shocking discovery. Between the seedy business dealings, there is a larger problem ensuing. This multiplies tenfold as a major force enters the scene. Once revealed, all bets are off where the future leads. Hopefully people are ready to kneel.

For Superman fans past and present, Action Comics #1100 is everything you could want involving Big Blue. Each story packs a punch while highlighting the best of Big Blue. The art delivers magnificent visuals as it takes readers on a ride. This is one anniversary you won’t forget!
