Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 (Marvel Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the FIRST issue of Star Wars: Jar Jar from Marvel Comics!

This has been a highly anticipated issue since it was announced back at New York Comic-Con in October 2025! It’s being co-written by Marc Guggenheim, and Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best! It also features an appeareance by Kelleran Beq who was played by Ahmed Best himself! So without further ado, let’s jump into it!

Credit: Marvel Comics // Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 by Ahmed Best & Marc Guggenheim (Writers), Kieran McKeown & Laura Braga (Artists), Mike Atiyeh (Color Artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer), Taurin Clarke (Cover Artist) is an incredible issue that is action packed from start to finish.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

The Story

Jar Jar Binks is a character that with a unique history in the Star War universe. He stumbles into the story seemingly in an inconsequential way, but ends up playing one of the most integral parts in the overall story before the prequel series ends. His journey along that road takes some interesting turns, and Ahmed Best & Marc Guggenheim introduce what could be the most interesting turn yet.

The story starts out with Representative Binks on a journey to Urubai to make contact with an individual who wants to speak to Jar Jar. However, not everything is as it seems and not long after touching down on Urubai Jar Jar comes into contact with Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. From there the story evolves into one that calls back to the recent past, and forces Jar Jar to come to grips with the consequences of his actions.

The issue takes place sometime in between the events of Attack of the Clones & Revenge of the Sith, the exact date is not said but based on things that are said it’s easy to confirm that much. There is one part that takes place in the middle part of the issue that really surprised me and adds a nice little easter egg for fans to connect some dots to individuals in the future. It also serves as a bit of redemption for Jar Jar’s character in my opinion.

I also really like how they ended the story and set it up for some future stories if possible. As far as I know, this is going to be a one shot issue, and right now no future issues are planned. However I would really like to see some future stories involving Jar Jar & Kelleran Beq if at all possible.

The Artwork

Kieran McKeown, Laura Braga & Mike Atiyeh all did an incredible job with the artwork in this issue. They did a fantastic job capturing the likeness of Jar Jar & Kelleran. I also really liked the backgrounds they had in the issue as it was really able to capture a plethora of different settings in Star Wars that felt a little familiar.

FINAL POINT: It’s a fantastic issue that delivers on multiple fronts that is sure to delight fans. Ahmed Best & Marc Guggenheim deliver one of the best Star Wars stories you’ll read this year that is cannot miss, and the artwork really adds to the issue in a tremendous way that enhances the overall experience.

Overall Grade: 9/10
