STORY OVERVIEW:

Space Ghost is being chased by the Galactic Patrol for the murder of Dr. Henry Contra. Jace is tasked with trying to save a planet that is being attacked by the Robochanic all by himself. And at the same time Jan finds herself all alone in a dark place. It appears that the Space Ghost Family is stretched thin even after struggling with the recent traumatic events they have been through, they continue to try and survive. The catch is that none of these scenarios are real, and that their minds have been hijacked by a powerful Sorceress named Prospero. Her plan to separate them in their minds to weaken them and ultimately eliminate them is going to plan. The only wrinkle in her plan is that Blip is still on the loose. But can he navigate into the heroes’ dreams and save them before it’s too late?

WRITING:

After the heavy emotional ride of the previous two issues, you would think that we would get a lighter tone issue for our heroes, but no. David Pepose doesn’t let off the gas and continues the emotional rollercoaster that the Space Ghost Family has been going through. This emotional struggle has built up a ton of suspense and an almost unnerving amount of what else could happen. This has made the story much more of a must read and really has readers on the edge of their seats.

Pepose’s introduction of the newest villain Sorceress Prospero is outstanding and brings a new and different threat to the family. The fact that the villain uses their minds to incapacitate them is an awesome choice for the Sorceress. The fact that it’s only by the overlooking of Blip that the plan doesn’t go her way is an amazing plot twist. However, the setting up for the arrival of the puppet master of all these events to finally show up, is what fans of the series will surely rejoice for.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue keeps the high standards that the series has become known for. Jonathan Lau makes every panel look fantastic. The character designs are crisp and easily recognizable, as well as being unique to each character. The backgrounds and settings create new atmospheres, and immerse the reader into whichever scene they are currently in. The color choices that Andrew Dalhouse uses make the art stand out even more. The colors match up to the character and situation perfectly, allowing the reader to sense the tone of the scene easily. The art team continues to deliver some of the best work in the industry today and continues to find ways to get even better.

Final Thoughts:

Space Ghost Vol. 2 #9 continues the emotional hardships for the Space Ghost Family. Conquering what has happened to them well having their minds invaded by a Sorceress is traumatizing to say the least. As the series ramps up, and we know we are getting closer to the “big bad” of this series finally showing up, the drama is intensifying. Space Ghost is one of the best books on the shelf every month, and if you are missing out on it, it’s time to rectify that and add it to your Pull List.

FINAL GRADE: 9.3/10
