STORY OVERVIEW:
Tempus the Time-Master has finally made himself known and the Space Ghost family is under attack. As Tempus takes the fight to Space Ghost and gets the better of him, it’s up to Jace and Jan to save Space Ghost. As a unit the family is able to take the fight to Tempus and survive the onslaught. Unfortunately, this is not enough to put Tempus down. In the process Tempus puts together his own family as he frees the enemies of Space Ghost from prison, well bringing his minions we’ve seen along the way as well. Now that the field is flooded with villains, will the Space Ghost family be able to survive Tempus’ attack?
WRITING:
This is the showdown and event we have been headed towards since the annual issue that came out last year. David Pepose has done an amazing job of building up to this for this entire run. The issue opens up with action and keeps up the pace the entire issue. Pepose really goes all out with this encounter and keeps the excitement at a fever pitch. The sympathy that Pepose makes the reader feel for Space Ghost as he is having trouble overcoming Tempus, gives the reader their first real sense that Space Ghost may have finally met his match. The all-star villain’s lineup also makes the story feel huge and makes for even more threats.
But the biggest draw to this issue in my opinion is the emotions between the Space Ghost family. As the Space Ghost is getting beaten and it looks like he’s done, Jace and Jan must save their mentor. This puts them in danger, to which Space Ghost must muster up the strength to help them. This anguish makes the reader feel more for the characters. This emotional tie and bound with the reader is what Pepose does better than anyone in the industry. Not to mention the wild cliffhanger ending that will surely lead us into the next part of this battle and you have an awesome move towards the end of this volume in front of us.
ARTWORK:
The artwork featured in this issue maintains the exemplary standards established by the series. Jonathan Lau demonstrates consistent excellence, ensuring each panel is visually compelling. Character designs are rendered with clarity and distinction, making them both recognizable and unique. The backgrounds and settings effectively establish atmospheres that engage readers within each scene. Andrew Dalhouse's color selections further enhance the impact of the illustrations; the hues chosen correspond well with both character and scenario, enabling readers to discern the tone effortlessly. The art team continues to produce outstanding work which sets them apart from other titles on the shelf.
