STORY OVERVIEW:

Ash continues to take out the Deadites at the lake house but knows that to keep everyone safe they will need to find a more secure location. Veronica offers up her SUV to take the gang to safety and by safety they head to S-Mart. Once their Ash makes Archie find the incantation he spoke from the Necronomicon so he can figure out the incantation to save them. It’s at this point that Ash realizes the Deadites aren’t attacking them and this confuses him. With the help of Archie remembering which incantation he read, Ash discovers that he didn’t say the whole thing which leaves the Deadites in limbo. Unfortunately for the gang, the Deadites have a plan of their own now.

WRITING:

This issue slows down the action a bit but compensates with humor. Erik Burnham really brings the funny in this issue with his writing. Not only are the written jokes funny, but also the odd and weird situations the gang find themselves in. Burnham moves the story forward with Archie’s search for the incantation, well also giving us the Deadites motives and plans. The action and violence are dialed back from previous issues, but this doesn’t hurt the issue overall as the humor and plot take center stage in this issue.

ARTWORK:

The book’s artwork draws heavily from the style of Archie comics. Bill Galvan & Ben Galvan blend classic comic strip visuals with horror elements, creating impressive scenes that appeal to both Archie and Evil Dead fans. The coloring by Ellie Wright gives a nostalgic feeling without overpowering the images, while Carlos M. Mangual’s lettering enhances the storytelling. Overall, the art matches the writing, making this a noteworthy collaboration.

Final Thoughts:

Archie x The Army of Darkness #3 continues the fun nature of this series well moving the plot forward. Even though the action takes a back seat in this issue it doesn’t lose any of its quirky charm. This has been a very fun series and this issue more than lives up to that. This is a fun book that should be on everyone’s list when they visit the LCS this week.
