*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Tynion devotes the issue in dealing with Jessica’s past. Her time with Adelaide is a calm moment through the chaos of a hunt. The dialogue is tough but endearing when needed. It helps guide Jessica to refocus on the mission at hand. This leads to a cutthroat action that changes the course of the case. Even at such a young age, the Order teaches a cruel lesson to those under their wing.
Once the story switches to Cecilia, the mood swings into a very dark place. Readers watch as she calculates the situation with ruthless precision. The result is a shock to all involved. Tensions are exploding as the results cause more of a deep wedge between all. This leads to a very difficult and somber finish. Seeing the aftermath weigh on Jessica’s shoulder plays into the tragic present. Her banter with Cecilia is anything but cordial. There is so much hurt and pain in Jessica’s voice, it can’t be denied. The frustration she feels leads readers into a devastating final page. Readers better brace for the emotional gut punches with the writing.

Dell’edera and Muerto lead with Adelaide and Jessica finishing up business. The expressions here fill with rage. It is a stern portrayal of the Order’s mentality. There is no happy moments as Jessica is getting schooled on how to deal with Cecilia. With a brief pause, the mission picks back up. The same can be said for Cecilia. Her time away is presented with a two page spread. This leads into a grave choice of action.
After another excellent two page splash, a full shot shows what Cecilia has done. It’s a tough page to take in but mirrors the harsh world of the Order. After a solid series of two page spreads, the story moves to closing. Cecilia and Jessica’s meeting carries much venom in their interactions. Jessica’s pain is clearly visible. It is deflected by Cecilia’s cold stance until a break happens. It may be too little too late. The final page is a haunting point to finish with as Andworld Design puts a dire spin on the close.
FINAL GRADE: 9.2
The Valmont Mountain House case takes a heavy toll on Jessica in this intensely written issue. Tynion IV takes readers on an uncomfortable trek with the story. Dell’edera and Muerto don’t hold back on the painful situations. SIKTC delivers another excellent display of storytelling that spares no expenses.
