*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Tynion opens up more past events of Jessica with haunting ramifications. The dialogue is stern as the young child vents her case. It leads to a cold acceptance of what is involved in her life. Monsters are very real in this world. Once events jump in timeline, Gary and Cecelia’s ride goes through many waves before settling. Readers watch as Gary’s ill-timed humor can’t break the seriousness of their mission. When the House places the orders, its completion at all costs, no matter how personal.
Once the focus shifts to Erica the aura is very heavy with worry. Her discussion with Octo is vintage in delivery. Their banter leads to Erica being on the defensive of Octo’s jabs. The" “Tough Love” also brings up how Erica may not be ready for what’s coming. Readers watch as the words take another dark turn. Octo’s predictions concerning Jessica lead to a terrifying point for Erica to accept. The fallout is paused due to the main event starting. It adds more gas on a very combustible situation for next go around.

Dell’edera and Muerto deliver Jessica’s early days with much anger behind them. Her translation of events takes readers on a few different paths, The panels reflect the pain she is feeling until the eventual breaking point. This is a much different scene than Gary and Cecelia. Their car ride is business casual as they banter. Gary’s attempt to break mood is noteworthy but fails to work. Cecelia’s driven to complete her assignment as they arrive at the mountain.
A two page spread welcomes Aaron Slaughter into the chapter for a brief moment. His frustration of events leads to an unexpected visitor The full page image dooms his attempts to reach out. Readers watch as Erica takes the case into her own hands. The eyes never break as Octo’s words start digging further. Readers see the eventual snap lead to a moment of truth. It serves a double purpose as the monsters are drawn out of the darkness. It doesn’t take long from here to start the action. The panels flood with swift strikes until help arrives. A full parting shot teases an inevitable ending which “happy” is the furthest from anyone’s definition.
FINAL GRADE: 9.2
Erica takes matters into her own hands as the Valmont Mountain Housecase appears ready to close. Tynion IV juggles the heavy emotions on display with ease. Dell’edera and Muerto unlock the deep rooted pain in the hunters as the final battle starts. The definition of slow-burn drama does it again!
