Queen In Black #5 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 4th issue of Queen In Black from Marvel Comics!
The battle is on! Hela and Knull are on Earth, and the Marvel heroes are trying everything they can to get ahead of them both. So what happens when Reed loses control? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
We’re finally here at the final issue of the Queen In Black event. It’s been a knockdown drag out fight between Hela & Knull, with the residents of Earth caught in the middle. There’s certainly been some memorable moments in the lead up to this event and even during it. And it all leads to probably the most shocking conclusion Al Ewing could’ve done.
The story picks up where things left off at with Queen in Black: Defenders of Light And Dark #3 left off, and that’s with Hela being “dead” (see Thor #801 for more on that) and Knull being the King In All. Al Ewing really doesn’t waste any time bringing things to their climax and the issue really delivers on a very satisfying conclusion.
Al Ewing does a really good job delivering on a shocking finale to the story that lives up to the build that’s been done before hand. If you’ve been keeping up with the story up to this point, the tension has been incredibly high and the stakes have been even increasing higher and higher with each tale.
The story also feels like a transitional one and that sets up a lot of future storylines. Which makes sense, Venom #1 is coming soon and plus there’s whatever else they’re going to do with the other players in this story. Overall though, the conclusion of this one is very good and has me excited for what’s going to come next.
The Artwork
Iban Coello, Paco Medina & Guru-eFX are in charge of the artwork for the issue and they do a phenomenal job with it. There is A LOT going on in the issue and each panel has a ton of care put into it that really comes across on the pages. You can tell how much time and effort went into each panel. This is the final issue in the story and they definitely stepped up their work for this issue and it really delivers a fantastic presentation artwise.
Overall Grade: 8/10
A fantastic conclusion to the Queen In Black story that sets up for a VERY interesting future. Al Ewing did a great job with this conclusion and it’s not one to be missed.
