X-Men #38 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 38th issue of X-Men from Marvel Comics!
What happens when Magneto reflects inward? Will he find something he likes? Or is it perhaps too much? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
Jed MacKay pens a very interesting story that was not what I was expecting at all. We’re just a few issues into the DNX event (tie ins included) and if you were to tell me we’d be getting an introspective story about none other than Magneto, I would’ve been surprised. Firstly, I would’ve been excited because anytime you can make Magento the central focus of the story it’s sure to be a good one. Secondly, and introspective story involving Magneto is a brilliant choice for this point in the story because the whole plot thus far from the group 3K revolves around Magneto.
I really have to give MacKay some credit here because the story is simply so compelling, and the dialogue is absolutely brilliant. The issue centers around Magneto having a self reflective moment in his mind with none other than Charles Xavier. Whether it is actually Charles or simply a manifestation of Magneto’s mind is up for you to decide. But the discussion the two have is easily some of the best writing you’ll read this year.
I don’t want to spoil too much, because you really do have to read it for yourself it’s just that good. I also couldn’t help but read the dialogue in Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen’s voices. It also sets things on a very interesting course for Magneto, and the rest of the X-Men.
The Artwork
Tony S. Daniel, Mark Morales & Fer-Sifuentes Sujo are in charge of the artwork for this issue and holy cow they did an incredible job. The sequences between Charles and Magneto were so impeccably drawn that it really complimented the story in such a wonderful way. There were also a couple of jaw dropping moments that I couldn’t believe I was seeing drawn out, it was so incredible to look at.
Overall Grade: 8/10
A solid issue that provides readers with some of the most compelling dialogue of the year. Jed MacKay’s work is must read material that you can’t pass up on. Together with artwork that is stupendous, this is an issue you can’t wait on reading!
