*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Allor constructs a very interesting story looking at Tommy’s post Ranger life. Staging him as a quiet farmer with family, it seems as he’s finally found peace. This quickly is thwarted when Goldar crashes his surroundings. The meeting provides some justifiable action before switching gears to the reason why. Readers see more threats approaching fast and explosive. This becomes a greater catalyst for the uneasy alliance forming.
This also teases another figure that carries a new mystery all her own. It serves as a solid break before events go back to Tommy’s struggles to come back to Ranger life. Goldar’s reasons for finding Tommy have reason behind them. The writing shows the friction in buying in as Tommy knows Goldar all too well. This leads into a steady finish where a choice has been made. Events wrap up with a chilling message as Tommy’s choice comes with grave consequences for failure.
MORE POWER RANGERS!
Vargas showcases the peaceful life of Olvier’s family to begin events. Panels show the genuine happiness in simple farming. This is upended with Goldar crashing the scene via half panel. Their brief fight adds some action into the mix before a reveal changes everything. An excellent half page displays a chaotic escape form a larger threat on the horizon. Once here, the art does a small detour from Tommy’s path.
Readers see a brief glimpse of an invested party looking for clues. Knowing the danger of the Red Censer, the inhabitants are looking for any way to avoid its’ attack. This allows for Tommy’s talk with Goldar to have more weight added. Panels mirror the gravity of the situation at hand. Even with a small character smile break, it never escapes readers on what’s involved here. The art drops a full page shot of Tommy’s answer with some humor behind it. This brief break moves events to close with a haunting full page to end on. Solid work all around.
FINAL GRADE: 8.2
The post-Rangers life of Tommy Oliver takes a dramatic turn with a ghost form the past tracking him down. Allor sets the stage for a promising Power Rangers tale with great writing. Vargas presents a grounded look at a Ranger struggling to let go of peace. An imaginative take on a beloved Power Ranger fans wou’t want to miss!
