*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Moonstar returns home to live with her parents after the Krakoa Era disintegrates. Hijinx Ensue when she runs into some old foes with an ancient soul-sucking sword.

What did we think?

Well, I love the character from a long time ago. I’m an aged comic reader so I do remember New Mutants when it was “new”. She was a great character with a lot of cool stories. “Demon Bear”, all that classic stuff. I honestly haven’t kept up on all things Krakoa Era once (Jonathan) Hickman left.

MORE FROM THE X-MEN!

As far as this book, it’s well written. The art is very good. That said, all of this feels superfluous as you know reading it, as you turn the pages, this isn’t going to make it 10 issues.

This is another Marvel book that’s a number one and it feels so much like a one and done series. You can feel it as you’re reading it. It doesn’t do the typical “new comic/series” set-up. We’re not getting a new stat quo. It’s just another adventure for Moonstar, which is fine. The story is engaging and current enough. It taps into the Thor and Magik series. It’s new reader friendly. Readers will like the art and action sequence near the end of the book.

FINAL GRADE: 6/10

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this comic. It’s just everything going on outside of it making you go “Why should I invest in this if it’s over before its’ started"?” Just make a Marvel Comics Presents or Marvel Spotlight book. This just doesn’t have the feel of going long and building for seeing more Moonstar ongoing. It’s a Marvel thing right now, where “Everything isn’t a limited series” but it turns out to become one imo.

A decent read, but too much of a weird vibe to it.

Let’s see where it goes from here. What’s your thoughts on Moonstar #1? Leave them in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
