STORY OVERVIEW:
We visit 5 years ago, where Molerro ordered El Zombie to execute a group of resistance fighters in cold blood. But this isn’t the first time that he has used El Zombie to take out the innocent, as a matter of fact he’s had him kill whole families. It’s after this particular mission that Everett K. Ross, while snooping around the crime lord’s compound, discovers that El Zombie is actually Frank Castle, the lengendary Punisher. He also becomes aware of a Mexican operative posing as a cook, Maria. Together they make a pact to get Frank out of there, and five years later they finally make that happen. However, after detoxing him off of the drugs, and helping him through withdrawl, Frank can’t handle what he was responsible for. Can they convince him he isn’t at fault or will Frank never get over it?
WRITING:
This issue is a very deep and at times disturbing look into the world of the Punisher. Jimmy Palmiotti does an excellent job of walking us through Frank’s traumas and pain. At the same time, showing the lengths two agents are willing to go to get him free. Palmiotti really strikes a nerve when he has Frank shoot himself over the atrocities that he blames on himself. The story is very dark but captures the essence of the character perfectly.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this book is absolutely amazing and super graphic. Dan Panosian captures the pure essence of what a Punisher book should look like. The character designs, the background world, and especially the violence and graphic images are all impeccable. Panosian vividly brings the story to life with bold, graphic art. While intense, it will satisfy readers seeking a visually powerful experience.
Final Thoughts:
Marvel Knights: The Punisher #3 is an emotional rollercoaster with some heavy and graphic content. The dark and deep storytelling, along with the graphic art won’t be for everyone. Fortunately, for those who enjoy the more adult centered themes this issue will be great for them. This story is really heating up and if you don’t want to miss what’s next make sure this is on your Pull List.
