Star Wars: Han Solo - Hunt For The Falcon #4 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 4th issue of Star Wars: Han Solo - Hunt For The Falcon from Marvel Comics!
Han Solo is on the hunt with his old friend Chewbacca and they’re searching for the Millennium Falcon that Han is no longer in possession of! He’s been following a trail back to the planet Jakku in hopes of tracking it down! It should be noted that this series takes place BEFORE the events of The Force Awakens. So let’s jump into it!
Credit: Marvel Comics // Star Wars: Han Solo -Hunt For The Falcon #4 by Rodney Barnes (Writer), Ramon Rosanas (Artist & Cover), Guru e-FX (Color Artist & Cover), VC’s Joe Caramagna (Letterer) is a great issue that continues to impress.

The Story
Rodney Barnes is doing a really great job at presenting Han Solo in a light we haven’t seen him in before. Sure there was around 30 years that had passed between Return of the Jedi & The Force Awakens and the Han we see in those two films has aged in a multitude of ways. However what Rodney is doing with this series is showing us a Han Solo that still has glimpses of brilliance and the man he used to be. Though those moments are still in-between moments where he’s lost a step, and he doesn’t have the same reflexes that he used to.
I really also appreciate getting to see this story and an explanation of what exactly Han did (mostly) between films. One of my biggest gripes with Episode 7 was that there were portions of it that were just, “yeah. Stuff happened, take our word for it and roll along with it.” Which works fine in certain instances, but not with characters as established and beloved as the ones from the original trilogy of Star Wars.
It was really great to see Han show a softer side of himself to Chewie in the later pages of the issue. So much of Han’s character for nearly fifty years has been just how cool he is, and being the swashbuckling character of the group. So it’s easy to forget that he’s human and seeing him say, “Lately, I haven’t felt like myself. Longer than lately, actually. Some days, I miss Leia and Ben. Others, I miss having fun.” It shows a side that I think a lot of readers can relate to, myself included.
The Artwork
Ramon Rosanas & Guru e-FX really do a fantastic job with the artwork in the issue. They do a great job capturing the look of Han, Chewie and Unkar Plutt and giving it that familiarity to fans who might be new to the comics. They also do a great job with the sequences in the issue that are high in tension and anticipation. I really felt the sense of dread & anxiousness coming across the panels.
FINAL POINT: Rodney Barnes is adding some incredible depth to one of the most beloved characters in pop culture history, in a story that is filled with heart, emotion & action from start to finish. Rodney Barnes has perfectly captured a deeper side of Han that all fans are sure to enjoy. All that along with some artwork that has a familiar look make this a series you shouldn’t be skipping!
Overall Grade: 8/10
