LOBO #4 by Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, Jean-François Beaulieu, & Nate Piekos of Blambot (DC COMICS)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Young gets Lobo right back into his usual stat quo. The writing shows the Main Man snap out of his funk the only way he can. With a new look and some chaos behind it, Lobo sets out to start his new assignment. Readers watch as he recruits an old friend to help with the gig. Their chat is pure absurd business but fits right into where they are heading. Once at the intended destination, things take a unique turn.
Readers watch as the pair is trying to break into a spot belonging to the House of El persay. The wild attempt to gain entry is filled with more quirky moments before finding success. It doesn’t come without strings attached. The Maiden Of Might makes a bold entrance and doesn’t wait to fight. Their banter is everything you would expect. Kara matches snark for snark in delivery. The fight continues to an abrupt stop. It helps shift events for its’ cliffhanger ending which will bring a smile to faces. A solid match-up that has more room to expand on next go-around.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!
Corona & Beaulieu never miss on bringing the other worldly aspects to life in this series. Lobo’s “broken” state shows his disheveled look. His manscaping sequence is pure mayhem in their panels. A strong half panel concludes this portion of events in style. Once event move to the job at hand, the art dabbles more into the trouble this is going to be. Another half pane shows a wide view of where Lobo and his partner are going. Readers will automatically wish good luck on this case.
An incredibly detailed full page moves through the tunnels to get to the intended destination. The art hams up their tools of breaking in to a fun level. This leads into an insane scenario as soon as the door is broken. A full page shows the insanity commencing. As the smoke clears, the party is officially crashed. Supergirl arrives via full page and is ready to fight. Action panels flow with ease as the punches commence. The fight is bombastic in structure. Corona swings huge when needed. Another full page upends everything. Readers won’t see this coming. I leads to more hijinks as the pair starts more bickering. It leads to the final full page shot which ends events on a solid note for now. A fun visual ride to have witnessed goes down here.
FINAL GRADE: 8.6
Lobo’s back in business and Supergirl isn’t happy with his first case. Young brings out the craziness of Lobo’s world flawlessly. Corona & Beaulieu deliver on monster action fitting for the heavyweights involved. If this is any indication of the movie experience, fans better get ready.
