LAZARUS ORDER #3 (Mad Cave Studios)

Ed takes Uriel on his first mission and his first time topside. Unfortunately, they are set up and taken hostage by a group of Vamps known as the Coven of Wright. They demand that the Order return Madame Jezebel Wright to them in exchange for Ed and Uriel. WRITING:

Ambush, hostages, and shotty plans, this issue has it all! Sloane M. Siegel brings the heat and sets up for what surely will become quite the powder keg in the next issue. Having Uriel get captured on his first mission topside and well with one of the best Doctors is an incredibly bold decision. A character we have already grown to care about in Edward, who also comes across as one of the top Doctors is the first part of the shocker. But bigger than that is the crazy and bold strategy the Order is working up to get them back. Siegel likes to take big swings, and in this issue, it really pays off. Most of the time a setup issue is a little lackluster, however this is far from that as it builds a great deal of excitement and anticipation for what will happen next. If this series didn’t already have you locked in, it should now!

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue captures the mounting anticipation and intrigue at the heart of the story. Juan Doe conveys the danger surrounding Ed and Uriel while also giving equal weight to the desperate plan taking shape within the Order. His staging and character expressions make their captivity feel immediate, while the quieter scenes involving Damian and Mr. Journey reveal the trust between them and help explain why Mr. Journey is willing to gamble on such a risky strategy. Doe also communicates Jezebel Wright’s sinister intentions through subtle glances, restrained body language, and carefully framed moments that allow the reader to sense what she is planning without the need for exposition. His bold color choices give the world a vibrant, otherworldly ambience, using contrast and saturation to direct the reader’s eye and heighten the mood of each scene. The rich neon tones make the environments feel alive while preserving the story’s darker, gothic edge. Combined with the strong lettering from DC Hopkins, which keeps the dialogue clear and the pacing sharp, the visuals create a polished and immersive reading experience.
