Williamson welcomes back the old foe with a traditional entrance. Escaping from the vault and taking out a few Guardsmen, Anton Vanko gives readers a small glimpse of what he can do. This is complimented by Adam Ware, the new head of A.I..M. Seeing Tony prized pupil embrace super villainy is going to pay off huge down the road. It offsets the hidden drama revolving around Stark’s latest ambition.
The dialogue with his young students conveys his hope for the future. This does offer some conflict with his latest Love, Luna. Readers watch as their blossoming relationship takes another turn right before the action begins. From here, it’s standard Iron Man conflict. The mystery of Citizen V also plays another role into the complicated equation. This all gets upended by the final page. A great call back to Iron man lore takes place. How it all factors together remains a mystery fans will be invested for.

Carnero returns after being away for a few issues. The escape from the vault is presented with no punches pulled. A full shot of a destroyed Guardsman makes a definitive statement before going back into safer places. Panels display the certain chaos that working with Tony Stark brings. It provides a solid break before all the action commences. Tony’s expressions of calm quickly fade as Whiplash brings the fight to Stark Industries.
Readers witness a incredible two page splash kick off the brawling. Whiplash’s manhandling in the early stages gets very large panels to flex its’ impact. There are a quick side tracks in between the main fight. Citizen V’s entrance is gifted a half panel rescue. Readers get a sec to catch breath before Whiplash’s onslaught continues. A near full panel sees Tony mount an offensive play before everything goes sideways fast. A figure appears via full page that changes everything moving forward. Pacing was kept steady to maximize the combat. Can’t ask for better than that.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
Whiplash’s return comes at a most inopportune time for Tony Stack in an action packed issue! Williamson stages a strong outing for the Iron Man rogue. Carnero and Woodard display a spectacular return with the art. Shellhead is locked and loaded for the long haul. Don’t miss out!
