McCann gets readers guessing with who’s actually behind the theft early in the chapter. Complicating matters even more is Victoria Charles’ disappearance. The writing stages events with some curiosity as Henry goes to work. There’s a continuous light-hearted vibe to this area of the mystery. It serves as a great point to transition to the “heavier” drama of this case.
Ethan and Henry’s marriage has been strained due to the lengths each have gone to prove innocence. The diner talk is very realistic and reflects the hurt inflicted with noble intentions. It is a very relatable conversation that will connect with the audience. This helps to move events forward but not without its’ hiccups along the way. Ethan’s doubts take him into an unlikely area. The writing constructs this build to easily transition to the close. Once here, expect the unexpected as there’s much to cypher through for the finale.

Eisma and Pantazis tease the true thief to open. The usage of shadows and light adds a bit more intrigue as readers start picking clues apart. Once events shift to Charles’ home, Henry and Anne’s mannerisms switch to discovery mode. There’s some fun scenes camouflaging Henry’s search of the house. It leads into a steady competition, allowing Ethan and Henry to have a much needed talk.
The bar scene pours with emotion as the couple has to hash through their issues. A fantastic two page spread shows the range of feelings affected with their previous actions. It leaves with a few lingering thoughts before letting Ethan take over. His justified paranoia takes hold of panels as he tries discovering Henry’s secrets. This moves to a few frustrated looks (and a fun face-off with their cat). Going back to the black and white scheme for pictures, the art team constructs a solid foundation for their cliffhanger ending. The final full page will raise some questions as this caper just became more complex.
FINAL GRADE: 8.4
Henry and Ethan’s search for innocence pushes their marriage to the brink in this pen-ultimate chapter. McCann pens a very grounded scenario with the couple’s communication issues. Eisma and Pantazis craft an enjoyable journey while complicating matters to the close. A highly enjoyable story that should be on more fans’ radars.
