INFERNO GIRL RED: BOOK TWO #3 by Mat Groom, Erica D'Urso, Igor Monti, Becca Carey( IMAGE Comics/MASSIVE-VERSE)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Groom takes Costa on quite the emotional trip for this concluding chapter. The intro puts her in an awkward conversation with a familiar face. Readers can sense the vibe is off for this moment. It reflects the disconnect with Costa’s team. The dialogue exposes the tension but maneuvers it to forward them back to the task at hand: Save Costa. Once the story swings back to Cassia after breaking for other characters, the reveal of her host is a shocking one.
This spirals into some unfinished business. The dialogue shows how Costa has grown in her role. It is not a finished product by any means. After a brief interlude, the sotry heads towards its main event. The twins have leveled up but they aren’t the only ones. Readers watch as Costa gets a tag team partner ready to fight. The fight itself lives up to the build. There’s plenty of huge scenes to give it the “Main Event” mystique it needs. The fallout ties up loose ends completely with the ending keeping the door open for more. Inferno Ignite indeed.

Is there another artist out right now who’s crushing it like Erica D’Urso on action scenes? We will get to that in a bit. The opening pages are a more quiet aura with Costa sensing her new surroundings. A full page image shows her walking towards a house in the country. This leads to a more calm discussion with its resident. As their talk continues, the mood is quickly changing course. Costa’s reactions add into the shocking reveal of who she’s speaking with. It’s aftermath leads into a quick stop home before heading into the big showdown waiting.
Readers witness the Twins powered up and ready to go via full page. The panels following are a vibrant display of fast paced motion. D’Urso and Monti give each panel such an electric feel. There is no wasted inch of page. Everything feels huge in the moment. This spins into a full page shot of her partner in combat. Once said person gets rolling, pacing keeps climbing. a two page mirror image of helmets pops off the pages. There is no slowing down from here. It leads into an intense and loud stoppage. Monti’s coloring seals the deal on the knockout f this finale. The epilogue eases readers into the parting moments. There is plenty of heartfelt reactions taking pace. None more stronger than the final page. A full vision shows a predictable yet fitting point to close up on. A rollercoaster of reactions.
FINAL GRADE: 9.2
With the fate of Apex City on her shoulders, Cássia Costa makes a valiant last stand in this concluding chapter. Groom pushes his lead character to confront her own insecurities before jumping into more fire. D’Urso and Monti deliver on an epic confrontation with their incredible art. The evolution of superhero comics continues to run through the Massive-Verse. The only thing disappointing is now there’s a wait for book three! Don’t miss this!
