INFERNO GIRL RED: BOOK TWO #2 by Mat Groom, Erica D'Urso, Igor Monti, Becca Carey( IMAGE Comics/MASSIVE-VERSE)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Groom focuses heavily on Cássia’s handling of public pressure falling on her shoulders. The dialogue with her team clearly hits with sharp returns. It displays her internal frustrations while trying to scramble for normalcy. The same struggles resonate with Thomas aka Griffin. Being with an alter ego, he’s the closest person to try connecting with as far as handling this weight. It fares better than her public address to Apex City. Her words are not that inspiring hope with the world on a doomsday clock. Chalk it up to growing pains for a hero.

Once Costa resumes her search for the Twins plans, the chapter starts picking up steam. Her interaction with Griffin moves into a few different directions. It leads into a dramatic showdown with Sylvia. The moment doesn’t take long to slip out of her grasp. Readers watch as her latest challenge tests what she thinks her abilities can do. The result causes a greater reaction than expected. Even in loss, Costa can claim winning but doesn’t. As more secrets come to light, it leads into a shocking ending spot. Where this leaves off raises many questions in an already frgile state of hope. Solid work.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!

Between Immortal Legend Batman and this series, D’Urso’ art continues to shine bright every time out. The more subtle intro discussion creates a sense of worry growing with each panel. This lightens slightly when she bumps into Thomas. The panels usher in some normal times for the super-powered pair. This gets replaced when trying to figure a plan out for the twins. A full page shot of Costa’s address comes off as awkward and clumsy as readers expect. Costa is still learning how to handle these moments. It’s a small break before the drama comes back.

Two incredible two-page splashes show The Griffin and Costa in action. It’s a quick injection of excitement before heading into more steady waters. The panels display Costa with her frinds reminds the audience of how much they are her strength. She needs this moment before searching for the Twins. After an emotional point with Thomas in costume, the art reflects pacing speeding up. There’s excellent action shots taking place as Sylvia makes a move. This only amplifies with the closing pages of the book. Another fantastic two-page splash kicks off a chaotic finish. The final panel is a mic drop moment via full page, sending readers into the closing chapter. Another knockout issue.

FINAL GRADE: 8.7

Cássia Costa is forced to address her own insecurities while trying to handle the Twins’s deadly attacks in her latest issue. Groom’s writing connects on Costa’s struggles while attempting not to crack under the pressure. D’Urso and Monti construct phenomenal artwork to take Costa into dangerous territory. This series has a great display of superhero themes while finding its’ own identity. Don’t miss it.
