*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Whenever dealing with Bruce Wayne, it is never an easy task bringing his faults to light. Knowing the actions he has taken thus far, seeing him working with Thomas Elliot makes for a tense ordeal. The writing plays into their “Frienemy” status while ushering the search for a new utility power belt. Thomas’s overwhelming jealousy strikes at a most inopportune time. The dialogue brings this to the forefront as Wayne addresses the real problem: himself.

The series has been known for the huge action and there’s no shortage here. Having an I.L. Joker handle business makes for an entertaining back and forth. It launches into the next phase of Wayne’s sacrifices. Readers watch as Wayne’s ends justifies his means in the long awaited showdown. The result turns a corner for the brooding figure. A simple conversation sets forth a new path. It’s a great twist into this ever-changing story. The epilogue is a calm landing with a door left open for more. Can’t ask for anything better from Higgins and Groom.

D’Urso and Monti have knocked this series out of the park since issue one. A full page shot of Bruce saving Tommy sets forth their rocky path. The fight between the IL Bat Family and Joker comes with monster action. Their efforts hit on every level. This doesn’t feel like a throwaway moment. It stands toe to toe with the best of Batman’s encounters. Each panel pops with the energetic displays. Brice’s ordeal with Tommy leaves readers with an uneasy feel. Once both points cross over, a full shot of IL Batman kickstarts the final battle.

The fight lives up to the marque billing. Readers will be caught up in the action right till the final blow. A full page strikes brings down the house as this phase concludes. It is not without an emotional goodbye as Brice comes to terms with what has happened.

Mora and Bonvillain wrap events up with a few knockout full page images. A cherry on a perfect sundae of exceptional storytelling.

FINAL GRADE: 9.3

Woth nothing left to lose, Bruce Wayne risks it all to stop his most dangerous foe in a spectacular finale. Higgins and Groom pull out all the stops for this conclusion. D’Urso and Monti blaze the way with incredible action and deeper personal conflicts. This series has carved out its’ own legacy in Bat lore that fans will be demanding for more!
