*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Wayne’s latest (and possibly last) hunt leads him back to a place he has unfinished business with. This is very clear in the opening stages. The dialogue carries an uncertain feel with each word. Once Gotham comes into view, there is more heightened concern to what the Bat family will find. It doesn’t take long before trouble finds them. One of their safehouses is quickly attacked. The frantic scene becomes more complicated when an ally emerges with a theory of events all her own.
This leads to a spectacle fitting for the villain at hand. The dialogue only challenges Batman even further. Seeing a nightmare come to life plays into more problems. Readers watch as Wayne believes time is up and goes for drastic measures. It opens up the door for a thrilling face-off. Pacing begins to speed up as the action takes hold. This moves events into the closing rounds. Once at this stage, certain deals are broken as one may expect. The payoff is a very surprising twist that can spell nothing good for those that oppose it. This series is anything but a standard superhero tale. Taking big swings helps to make it stand on its; own footing for fans to take in.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!
D’Urso and Monti open with a solid splash page of this vision of Gotham. With its’ neon coloring mixed in, this vision carries a certain electric feel as events begin. Once the action kicks in, the issue takes off and never looks back. There are plenty of eye-catching strikes thrown while sorting through the attack. This rolls into two full page visuals. One features the Immortal Legend Batman in his glory. The other is his unlikely back-up saving him from a tight situation.
Readers witness a full page welcome for the heroes to a dangerous island. The villain’s reveal comes with an unstable demeanor that follows this character whenever we see him. This allows Batman to take an extreme measure with this threat. The full page image spotlights an upgrade in equipment. Readers watch as the tempo picks up with excellent action panels. There isn’t really any slowing down form here, save a few moments. It resolves into a full page reveal of this particular shadow. Even with an assist from a “business partner”, one laughing boss takes this round,
Mora and Bonvillain step in to close the chapter out. Their art is brief but impactful. Images usher in an evolution of evil. The final page leaves nothing to chance on questioning danger. It’s full depiction of dark matter infusion leaves with a haunting message to take with the conclusion until next time.
FINAL GRADE: 9
A dangerous homecoming brings Immortal Legend Batman into a life-threatening battle for the ages. Higgins and Groom orchestrate the emotional return to excellent heights.
