Babs & Izzy are on their way to see if they can find the Quest party before they get headed down Black Road South. However, Babs is still very reluctant to go on this journey, and this continues to puzzle Izzy. Will Babs be able to put her past to the side so her and Izzy can regain the money that they blew?

STORY OVERVIEW:

Babs has a flashback to when she helped two Hobbits get to a volcano to dispose of a powerful weapon. Unfortunately, she accidently knocked one into the volcano and killed him. We then come back to the present where Babs & Izzy are riding a dragon to try and catch up to the questing group. The Dragon tells them a long-winded story about his fighting days and the downfall of his lifestyle. As the Dragon gets short of breath, they land and thankfully at their destination of the High Barns. Once there they go to the local watering hole, where they bump into the questing party, which Colin Culpepper is a member of. As Izzy tries to get added to the party, Babs continues to try and shake the feelings of the past.

WRITING:

This issue maintains the tone established by the original storyline in an engaging manner. Garth Ennis demonstrates proficiency in presenting the compelling and adventurous circumstances experienced by Babs. The interactions among the three principal heroes contribute significantly to their appeal. The humor and action are executed with precision and efficacy. The overall lighthearted narrative ensures the reading experience remains enjoyable throughout. At the same time the mysterious back story of what happened the last time Babs was on the road builds a level of suspense to entice the reader more.

ARTWORK:

The artwork featured in this issue aligns seamlessly with the story. Jacen Burrows consistently maintains artistic continuity throughout the series, and the style perfectly complements the playful tone, enhancing its lively spirit. The depiction of violence is handled skillfully, adopting a tongue-in-cheek approach that fits well with the overall fun atmosphere. The color selections by Andy Troy and Lee Loughridge further enhance the visuals, making the artwork stand out impressively.

Babs: The Black Road South #2 is another fun issue in this series. The tone and pace of this new story arc makes for a very enjoyable read.
