Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories - The Bad Batch: Rogue Agents #1 (Dark Horse Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the FIRST issue of Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories - The Bad Batch: Rogue Agents from Dark Horse Comics!

We are back with our favorite band of misfit Clones that we all know & love! The Bad Batch is back and this time they’re going up against more than one foe. So how will they be able to handle it? Let’s jump into it!

Credit: Dark Horse Comics // Michael Moreci (Writer), Reese Hannigan (Pencils), Elisabetta D’Amico (Ink), Michael Atiyeh (Color), Tyler Smith & Bobby Bradford (Letters), Valeria Favoccia (Cover) is a GREAT start to the series.

The Story

Michael Moreci really does a fantastic job capturing the feel of an episode of The Bad Batch animated series. Because this issue feels like the start of an unused script of that fantastic show.

The story is equal parts mystery & action. It features our heroes on a mission to track down a Dr. Ergin Lazlo for reasons we’re not quite sure of yet. What starts out as a simple search mission, with some fighting Sepratists battle droids, quickly turns into a deeper mystery on more than one front.

The strong point in the story is the mystery plotline, and it works really well. It’s a plotline we haven’t seen all that often, if we ever have throughout the entire run of The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch and other publications set during this time period. It definitely borrows certain aspects from a couple of stories, but it’s entirely unique in how it plays out.

It should be interesting to see how this plays out, and I’m interested to see just how it develops. I loved the last Bad Batch story in the Hyperspace Stories series, and this one is starting off just as strongly as that one did. So I have high hopes for the series, and thus far it’s meeting those expectations.

The Artwork

Reese Hanningan, Elisabetta D’Amico & Michael Atiyeh all did a fantastic job with the art in the issue. They did a great job capturing the way the clones look, which are just so classic at this point. The action sequences were also so impeccably drawn that it set a high standard for future issues.

FINAL POINT: If you’re a fan of The Clone Wars or The Bad Batch, you have to check out this issue. It does a great job capturing the look & feel of those shows that fans are sure to love it.

Overall Grade: 10/10
