STORY OVERVIEW:

We open with a brief tease for The Unbelievables narrated by the Trillion Dollar Kid before diving right back into the story. Zach is visiting his parents at the Metropolitan Detention Center, when he gets a strange vision of breaking them out. At the same time, Rose is making and passing out soup at the Warwick Community Center, when a complaint makes her have a vision of her own. The two compare notes when they meet up, well also discovering that Pepper the Cat and Tucker the Dog can talk. The pets reveal that they are their watchers and have been with them since they were sent to earth. They also reveal a secret that Sidney, who was actually their Adjudicator, had kept from them until the right time.

WRITING:

This issue starts with a connection to The Unbelievables, before jumping into the continuation of the story. Peter J. Tomasi shows the adjustments Zach & Rose are making after making their decision to keep their powers. At the same time revealing big revelations to them, such as their pets being able to not only speak, but also being their watchers. But business really picks up with the secret Sidney had for them. Tomasi gives us a peak at the future, while catching us off guard with what that will mean for them going forward. Also ending the issue with letting us know that someone is in search of Halo & Hornsby sets up some mystery for next issue.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue shines because it perfectly complements the story’s tone. Peter Snejbjerg’s style captures the charm and energy of Saturday morning cartoons while translating it effectively to the comic page. That balance enhances the story’s whimsical feel and helps each panel carry its emotional and thematic weight. John Kalisz’s vibrant colors further elevate the visuals, reinforcing the mood and atmosphere throughout. Together, the art and coloring create an immersive reading experience that strengthens the storytelling.

Final Thoughts:

Hornsby & Halo #0 follows up flawlessly from where the story left off in the last issue. Building some mystery and suspense for where the story will go as the series moves forward. The addition of The Unbelievables angle doesn’t hurt the issue but doesn’t bring much to the table either. Numbering this issue as a #0 is a bit confusing as it is really just a continuation from last issue, but once again this doesn’t hurt the story at least. This continues to be a fun and interesting family comic and is definitely one you should check out at the LCS.

FINAL GRADE: 8.8/10
