*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Hampton does the unthinkable and makes Gardner a voice of reason to open events up. His heated confrontation with Cruz leads into a path unseen. The writing doesn’t let time sink in with this moment as the Manhunters have arrived. This portion instantly creates a sense of urgency to respond. Cruz and Gardner’s path is a slower pace but one that shows the evolution of a brash jerk into a leader.
Even as Guy has evolved, he still doesn’t match the inspiration of one Jo Mullein. Her rally cry speech will fire up every reader that sees it. It becomes a much needed spark for handling what’s coming. The action comes in very fast and delivers on all fronts. Morgan sneaks in a fun moment with Kilowog and Mullein that allows the book to have some crazy moments, but mesh perfectly with the story. This offsets the more serious tone taken with Gardner in addressing the Emerald Entities. His words pack a unique punch before another curve is thrown. This spirals events into a more unstable ending. There’s plenty of moving parts involved, merging together for a great cliffhanger. Solid work.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!
This book carries a large number of artist for this chapter. Each add something special in to the mix. The opening face-off between Cruz and Gardner keeps boiling until a full page image cements their fate. Readers take this in quickly as another full shot shows the Manhunters en route to Oa. It instantly creares the danger needed for what’s coming. From here, the art jumps around to cover multiple areas.
Mullein’s rally is bold in nature. The art locks in on the energy behind the words to send warriors into battle. It is a different look at Gardner and Cruz. Their panels have a somber-like feel as Gardner sells his point of view. Readers will be locked in on the action scenes though. Panels go for broke as the combat begins. A full page image takes the unified front to a place unexpected. It is matched with a half panel teasing a response. This leads back to Jessica and the book’s ending. Her emotions run a course of changes before slamming into the finish. The full page shot leaves an uneasy feel as tough choices need to be made. Excellent work all around.
FINAL POINT: 8.8
The Manhunters come to Oa looking for a fight and get their wish! Hampton stages huge battles along with showing off a different side to the “Allsight”. The art teams leave it all on the pages with wild fight sequences. GLC is one book to always have in your pull list!
