GREEN LANTERN CORPS #16 by Morgan Hampton, Juan José Ryp, Will Conrad, Matt Herms, & Dave Sharpe(DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Hampton does a fantastic job juggling so many characters for this chapter. The opening reactions to Aya’s possession leads into a brutal reality. Watching the bruised Corps division adjust to the initial attack leads to a more grave scenario. Readers watch as her physical self gives a stern decree onto the future of the cold machines. It floods over to the panic talking over the Citadel of Oa. Jo’s breakdown of events causes a stir of doubt to challenge the Allsight. Gardner’s confidence is rattled in a very odd way for him. Hampton pushes this directly into a new threat looming in the stars.

Readers watch as it results in a risky but desperate plan. Seeing Sinestro and Stewart stand off about directions is a welcomed sight. The result is the gamble all we expecting. This pushes directly into the closing stages. Seeing the Manhunters face off against a new host of Greed leads into utter chaos. The writing shows the upgrades in not only power, but persona as well. It results in a bold action taken with huge ramifications. The final pages usher in the aftermath with a nice build. Once at the closing moment, readers sense how fast things have sunk into darkness.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

The art team open with a frantic escape from Biot. Once the Lanterns return to space, they find only damage as their ship has been destroyed. Panels lock in on the painful realization of what’s occurred. Even Guy Gardner’s attempt to stop events from spinning fall on deaf ears. This leads to a bold vision of what’s happening. A full page declaration of the future is brought to life. This spins back to the Citadel with a sense of uncertainty filling the panels.

Guy’s premonitions pop with a lighter coloring scheme. It makes the full page jump while defining his thoughts. This mood carries over to Sinestro and Stewart. the pair are no strangers to each other by a long shot. Their expressions push the other in dealing with the Parallax question. Readers watch as a half panel resolves the moment before heating back up. The group image provides a calm point before the pace speeds up. Once here, the action kicks in. The actions evolve into a fantastic two page spread. It leaves a trail of doubt for the heroes before fate intervenes once again. The final full page switches gears and sees the heroes caught up in a moment. A solid landing point till next time.

FINAL POINT: 8.6

The Allsight and company are testes with another Emotional Entity being the target of the Manhunters . Hampton drives home the evolution of the unforgiving machines The art team lean into the emotional pulls involved with the fight. The Emerald Escapades hit a new gear with their latest saga.
