GREEN LANTERN #30 (DC COMICS)
Hal Jordan. Bruce Wayne. “Frenemies from work”
Two heroes that couldn’t be any more different. Their methods and personalities constantly clash while trying to accomplish the same goal. With Jordan needing answers to the effects from the Book of Oa, one person would have the answers. Jordan books a one-way ticket to Gotham City to see if Batman can help. It might be a better question to ask if they can co-exist while trying.
GREEN LANTERN #30 by Jeremy Adams, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Romulo Fajardo Jr. & Dave Sharpe continues to explore the mystery of the Book Of Oa.
Let’s take a closer look at the DCU’s odd couple in action!

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Contrary to last issue, the “feel good vibes” disappear quickly in this issue. It is replaced by an unrelenting tension between two people who clearly don’t like each other. Adams opens with a routine night out for the Dark Knight. A green Bat-signal tips off more. The writing doesn’t delay in showcasing the clash in personalities. Adams leans into the one-upmanship between the pair. At times, Jordan feels that he goes above and beyond to get under Wayne’s skin. Even as their current case evolves, this back and forth fuels their latest escapade. The result is a reminder of not every problem needs to be solved with fists.
Readers watch as the pair sets forth to discover the secret behind disappearing rogues. The problem becomes more complex as the truth is revealed. Adams features both heroes implementing their methods to draw out a conclusion. One wins out to present a helping hand rather than a cold shoulder. It is a moment that will connect with the audience on many levels. The effect also dabbles into the heroes dynamic. This ushers in a fresh look with how these to perceive the other. Readers watch as this moves to the closing act which serves as another transition point. The next chapter throws an additional impact into a journey more into self discovery rather than running away from it.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!
Di Giandomenico & Fajardo Jr. opens with a familiar view of Batman at work. This leads into a solid full page image with a new Bat Signal. The friction between Jordan and Wayne comes into the spotlight rather quickly. A full page recap of Oa’s effect breaks this tension up to craft a new problem. Jordan’s mysterious ailment draws out some awkward moments while brewing up more drama. This segways into a case breaking in Gotham. What is discovered allows the art team to tear loose on constructing some excellent images.
Batman jumps into action with a nice blend of smoke and shadows. This gives way to a strong full page image of a familiar foe in anew light. Readers watch as more smoke and mirrors come into play. The art allows Jordan to get some action panels in before moving the story into its grounded phase. The emotions of both Jordan and Wayne tell their own story here. Jordan takes the lead here with a whimsical charm to ease the conflict tension. It has a profound effect on the culprit and more in attendance. This leads into an iconic shot of Batman and GL overseeing the Gotham nightlife. Their expressions change from when readers see them at the beginning of this tale. The final panel will have readers excited for what’s next with a very favorable match-up to expect.
FINAL GRADE: 8.7
Opposites attract only trouble when the Dark Knight teams with the Emerald Guardian. Adams takes readers on quite the adventure with stellar writing. Di Giandomenico & Fajardo Jr. structure the pairing around their clashing personalities. The result is a fun trip reminding why a hero’s words are mightier than their powers.
