Gargoyles Winter Special 2025 #1 (Dynamite Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 2025 Gargoyles Winter Special!
It’s become a tradition from Greg Weisman & the team at Dynamite Comics to release a Winter Special issue for Gargoyles. It’s an issue that doesn’t tie into the main story going on in the series, but is more of a fun read for a quiet time of year. This years is no different! So let’s jump into it!
Credit: Dynamite Comics // Greg Weisman (Plot), Nate Cosby (Plot & Script), George Kambadais (Artist & Colorist), Jeff Eckleberry (Letterer), Jae Lee & June Chung (Cover) is a heartfelt issue that is a perfect read for this time of year.
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
The Story
Greg Weisman & Nate Crosby really did an incredible job with the story for this issue. It’s an incredibly heartfelt issue that had an ending I did not see coming. It’s a perfect story for this time of year, and also reinforces the saying “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”.
The story revolves around an apartment building in Manhattan and it’s tenants. It’s a lot like any other apartment building in the city, a group of folks just trying to make their way in the city. However the one thing unlike the rest of the city is their landlord, who is feeling awfully Scrooge-like just about every month out of the year it seems.
However something happens to the building and sets events on a Christmas Carol like journey, though we don’t really see how that comes about until the end. However we do see none other than Broadway, or should I say Detective Broadway gets involved in the story surrounding the building.
I don’t want to say much more regarding the story, because it really is a fantastic story that you need to experience for yourself. Greg & Nate really hit a home run for this story and it came at the perfect time.
The Artwork
George Kambadais really brought his A game for the issue and delivered in every way possible. He does a great job capturing the look & feel we’re used to with Gargoyles & still gives it a familiar feel to it. I also appreciate the way he made Manhattan look during the winter time, because I’ve been there in December and I could feel the cold coming through the pages (metaphorically speaking of course).
FINAL POINT: This is an issue anyone can enjoy, and is easily accessible even if you’re not a fan of Gargoyles. It’s a perfect message and story for the holiday season and one that everyone should read ASAP.
Overall Grade: 10/10
