G.I. Joe #25 by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, Andrea Milana, Lee Loughridge & Rus Wooten (Skybound/Image Comics)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Williamson goes all in for this chapter! The opening pages recap what’s been building involving Night Force! It’s a great sequence to catch up readers and invite new ones into the story thus far. The action comes fast as a trail simulation showcases the new squad in action. Once the story comes back to Zartan, the tension is thick as there is no easy solution for any party involved.

Readers watch as the frantic scene goes completely off the rails. Baroness’ escape crafts a complicated fallout. The writing shows the team divided on what to believe. It hits on a few fronts before allowing a brief COBRA moment. Major Medusa’s intro comes across with danger behind it. It proves a great time to pivot to Hawk’s kill order on Baroness. The writing shows the pushback spin into a chaotic chase. Readers will become immersed with the back and forth until the showstopping final page. What a ride!

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

Milana, Reilly & Loughridge team up for one hell of a visual experience. The Night Force recap feels gritty as you see them form their unit. It leads into a Milana two page spread that delivers greatly! The training session is loud and in your face. Its what this series is known for involving action. There’s a great recap of the past two year’s highlights adding into the impact of what has been building with Zartan.

This moves into an explosive meeting with Baroness fighting for her escape. Emotions are running high as this changes everything for the team. Reilly outdoes himself with an ingenious two page spread of Baroness escaping form the Pit. Milana’s intro of Major Medusa adds a slight horror element into play beofre going back to Reilly for the close. A split full page shot of Hawk and Duke shows the friction of direction. The meeting of both teams doesn’t miss as the tough calls are made. With a fast pace, events crash into the final page. A diabolical ending full page challenges Duke in an already hostile place. Suffice to say, you wanted action, you got it!

FINAL GRADE: 9.5

What Williamson, Reilly, Milana & the team have been building for two years comes to a triumphant reality in a can’t miss issue! The writing locks readers in and never eases up on delivering huge moments. Phenomenal art drive the action to new heights. This series never misses hitting high marks of storytelling excellence.
