STORY OVERVIEW:
Tariq Geiger finds himself back in the past where his family is still very much alive. Unfortunately, this trip back in time doesn’t last long as he is forced back to his present, which upsets him greatly. Once back the Northerner and him burst into the Department of Historical Preservation office. Once inside the office they receive a phone call from Mrs. Freeman. She procedes to tell the Northerner that he was never meant to be in this timeline and that this fight is not his. The Northerner objects and tells her he will stay until he knows how the Unknown War started. Mrs. Freeman notifies him that it isn’t his choice to make and that the choice to pull him is final. She also lets Tariq know that going back in time was a fluke and that won’t be happening again. Tariq finds himself angry and alone yet again, but with the promise that he will find Mrs. Freeman and make her pay.
WRITING:
This issue brings the Unnamed Universe crossover to an end for the time being. Geoff Johns puts together an emotional and fitting comma on this event. The emotional highs and lows Tariq feels in this issue really bring the reader much closer to him. Johns makes us feel his happiness, followed by his pain and anger as this issue plays out. Similarly, Johns also makes us feel what the Northerner is going through, especially after being forced out of this timeline where he wants to help. This issue has less action than other issues in this series, but what it lacks in that department it makes up for in the emotional heartfelt story that unravels.
ARTWORK:
This issue looks fantastic and continues the series’ high visual bar. Gary Frank delivers bold, detailed art, and Brad Anderson’s colors add depth and punch to every scene. Together, they create visuals that elevate the storytelling, keep pages dynamic, and reinforce why they’re considered one of comics’ standout teams.

Final Thoughts:
Geiger #23 is a fitting conclusion to this crossover event that brings a lot of heart and emotion to the story. Because of the lack of action in this issue the story moves a little slower, however the impact of this issue will be felt going forward. The end of this issue sets up the next issue and what will happen next perfectly and promises to bring back more action. This series is fantastic and should be highly considered for your Pull List if it’s not already on there.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8/10
