Dougherty does what he does best in this series. There is so much detail involved, no free space is given. The two page spread of the Guard visiting territories move further into the frustration at hand. Images don’t hide the worry. This is especially true with the Surruko.

The challenges brought forth are met with a certain anger that won’t subside. With the fate of the people at stake, the art drives this home. Another fantastic two page spread brings Keen to the forefront as the Guard invades the mountains. This is followed with a pair of two page splashes that elevate drama even further. Keen’s troubles launch into a wild action sequence. Once the two page images break, a definitive end is declared. Readers have much to unpack here.

FINAL GRADE: 8.8

For Keen, the price of freedom comes with a deadly bill as tensions rise on the Free planet. Sitterson weaves in the drama behind an empathetic veil with the writing. Dougherty and company maximize every page with incredible work. There’s always something special happening on these pages.
