WRITING:
This first issue of Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla hits the ground running and keeps the action up throughout the duration of the issue. Nick Marino puts the reader right in the middle of the battles. Whether it’s Sonic vs Eggman or Mechagodzilla vs Mothra or a combination of all four, the action never stops. Marino takes great care in keeping the characters in this story true to themselves and their source material. This will surely make fans of both franchises happy and coming back for more. Most importantly, Marino keeps this book family friendly, which will lead to generations of fans being able to enjoy this together.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this first issue captures this world perfectly and is very reminiscent of the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon and comics from years ago. Jack Lawerence uses this cartoon style to great effect and hits older readers with a sense of nostalgia. The style also lends itself to the family nature of the story as well. The character designs are instantly recognizable and comfort the reader with a great sense of familiarity. Seeing the Kaiju in the design of the world of Sonic is super cool and is sure to please fans of all ages. Reggie Graham’s color pallet matches the cartoon art with its vibrant colors. The art team is doing a great job with bringing this world alive and putting the reader in the middle of all the action.
