FIRST LOOK: EVENT HORIZON: PANDEMONIUM #1 (IDW DARK)
What is happening on the Event Horizon was set into motion long before anyone stepped foot on the ship. As a matter of fact, they have been building since the early 1700’s. But now the sins of the past have come back to roost, and no one is safe from the hell that’s been unleashed. Event Horizon: Pandemonium #1 is the final chapter in this trilogy from IDW Dark, set to hit the shelves of your local comic shop on December 2nd, 2026. Ahead of the Final Order Cutoff date of Monday October 19th, 2026, IDW Publishing gave us a copy for a SPOILER FREE first look review.

WRITING:
Christian Ward kicks off this final chapter in his Event Horizon trilogy with the fever dream horror that we have become accustomed to with his run on this series. Starting off by taking us back in time and showing us how Sir Issac Newton, Hezârfen Ahmed Ҫelebi, and Anne Queen of Great Britain played a role in the initial discovery of the “Doorway to Heaven”. But Ward doesn’t take too long there as he brings us right back up to speed with what’s going onboard the Starship Event Horizon. He introduces us to some new crew members, some with very familiar names. The horror and hellscape ensues in true Event Horizon fashion. But nothing can prepare you for the twist that Ward has for us on the final page.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this first issue is beautiful and horrific all at once. Hernán González captures the fever dream world that is Event Horizon perfectly well adding some new flare to it. The depiction of the characters has stunning detail and looks like they should be hanging in a museum somewhere. The backgrounds and settings look massive and give the world a huge feel. But the horror scenes look straight out of your worst nightmares. This encapsulates exactly what this universe is and what we all expect from an Event Horizon title. If this first issues art is any indication of what we will be seeing in this final chapter, we are in for a treat.
Side Note: We got an advanced copy of Event Horizon: Pandemonium #1 so there are no colors and the lettering is not in its final form yet. This is why I’ve omitted them from the review.
