Barbara Gordon …murderer?!

After infiltrating Supermax on a covert mission, Gordon has now been accused of murdering a fellow inmate.

This is enough ammunition for Vandal Savage to take her down once and for all. Luckily, it appears Gordon might have some allies behind the steel gates to help her cause.

BARBARA GORDON: BREAKOUT #6 by Mariko Tamaki, Pablo M. Collar, Tamra Bonvillain & Ariana Maher (DC COMICS) sees hope try cracking through the cold walls.

Let’s take a deeper dive into the latest.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Tamaki orchestrates a more complex look at Gordon’s current dilemma. Adding in Savant and Creote put a nice dynamic into play. Their banter reeks of over-confidence when pressed into action. This moves events to getting some possible relief for Gordon. The writing stages this with a hopeful sense, albeit fleeting at best.

Gordon’s case takes a notable turn with her lone remaining ally Myrna. Their discussion is frank as they piece together suspects for killing Sparrow. Readers watch as Gordon’s detective skills come into focus with great success. It allows her to start putting together a needed win instead of being behind the eight ball like she has been. This turns fast into a frantic scene where more questions are raised going to close. Tamaki throws another explosive variable in the mix with who joins the party now. Get ready for fireworks here.

Collar & Bonvillain keep the pace high as they bring in new players to the long game. Savant and Creote’s introduction is through while assessing the Supermax scene. It leads to a bold encounter where the pair stands tall to their threats. Panel structure for this threat is excellent in presentation. This allows Gordon to hone in on the investigation she’s attempting.

Readers watch as her curiosity never leaves her face while checking a cell. Panels pick up with action as Guards attempt to intervene. This leads to a loud full page image, starting her defense. Panels flood with solid misdirects until landing on a haunting full page image. Panels give way to the classic Batman rogue coming into the saga. Use of shadows jump out as he moves through the prison. This leads to a final full page reveal where all bets are now off.

FINAL GRADE: 8.5

Barbara Gordon’s quest for justice runs into roadblocks as new figures enter the frame. Tamaki keeps the pressure up with Mahar’s lettering guiding the way. Collar & Bonvillain keep the tension building on each page. A bold attempt to find justice in a sea of evil deeds. Keep this on your radar for NCBD!
