EVENT HORIZON: INFERNO #2 (IDW DARK)

The story keeps getting crazier as we get deeper into this nightmare. We find a little more about Skylar Mooney, her tortured youth, into her marriage to Durante, and right up to where we are today. Speaking of that, the crew start to realize that the Event Horizon is a living nightmare, and they are trapped in it.

STORY OVERVIEW:

We open with the backstory and life of Skylar Mooney through her childhood, freedom, marriage to Daniel Durante, and ultimately her abuse at his hands. This brings us to where we are on the Event Horizon, as the last remaining survivor of the Lewis and Clark tries to warn the crew about what is happening. She notices Skylar and identifies her as one of the demons that feed off of them. However, if they hope to survive what’s going on, they need to get on the same page before it’s too late.

WRITING:

This issue picks up where we left off in the last issue. Christian Ward continues to design this crazy and disturbing world. The threat of the horrors going on in the ship continue to give you nightmares and anticipating what messed up thing will happen next. Ward has crafted a world where anything and everything can happen. But the real highlight of this issue is the backstory of Skylar, which sets up where we will be going in this series. Showing how she was mistreated as a child and then shaped as an adult is sad and makes you feel for her. At the same time, Ward teases that she may be a more sinister piece to this story. The dichotomy between feeling sympathetic and leery of her at the same time builds some suspense and mystery for what will unfold.

ARTWORK:

The artwork perfectly complements the story, heightening its suspense and horror. Rob Carey captures the spirit of the franchise and brings Ward’s script to life in a vividly nightmarish way. The character designs give the cast a distinct presence, while the ships and settings feel vast yet still create a claustrophobic atmosphere. Carey’s strongest work lies in how he builds tension, making readers hesitate before turning the page to see what comes next. Xenon Honchar’s colors make the visuals stand out and intensify the book’s unsettling imagery. Together, the art and color work amplify the horror and leave a lasting impression.
