Writing:
Starks continues to push the envelope with where he takes this story. Opening with George’s latest update, readers watch as his conversation exposes how much doubt he has for Eddie’s survival. It serves as a pivot point to get Eddie’s troubles rolling. The banter between Little Cock and him crafts the winning balance of drama and snarky humor. Eddie’s dim-wittedness shines where the odds are stacked even higher against him. This theme spreads around to other notable characters in the story.
Rumplemindt and Neils play up their torture techniques to new levels. The writing showcases them smarter with their schemes than most think. George’s commentary from a distance is a stark contrast from Eddie’s option of “caring” for his fellow assassin. The story moves quickly to deliver solid action. It also provides a solid dive into the backstory of the Cocks. Once arriving in the finish, the writing maximizes on its’ absurd moments to deliver an all-time classic finish. Starks just can miss with what he’s doing here.

Pugh & O'Halloran keep things grounded when it comes to the residents of Pluto. Panels mirror the small town atmosphere while the chaos starts unfolding. This moves away from George’s very dire status into Eddie’s current troubles. The back and forth talk hits with Eddie’s blank stares providing some comedic relief. Panels run a mirror sequence as they show both Eddie and George’s current times and the doubts creeping in around them.
Readers continue to watch as Rumplemindt and Neils’ torture goes up a few notches. It’s combated by a nine page grid of Eddie’s attempts to mount a comeback. This pushes events into a more familiar sense. Pages drop loud action while showing a new side to Eddie. Events take a pivot with a fast flashback to the story of the Cock’ growing bond. Coloring makes this sequence stand out. Once in the main event, Carey’s lettering takes over as the fighting commences. It ends with a huge final full page that upends everything. Buckle in for this one.
FINAL GRADE: 9
Eddie and Little Cock have to find a way to escape without killing each other in the process in another phenomenal chapter. Starks takes huge gambles for greater wins with the script. Pugh & O'Halloran revel in presenting the ambitious looks of Eddie’s world. EoL is always in contention for best series at the comic shops!
