STORY OVERVIEW:
Doc Beacon has to clean up and dispose of the Sherrif’s body after he brutally murdered him. This puts the Doc on the path to get out of Hailstone for good with his new fortune. However, before he can leave, he needs to evade the Deputy who is looking for the Sherrif, as well as take care of Sam’s teeth. Unfortunately for Beacon, Sam isn’t just there for his teeth but to also take all of the money from the Doc. The amulet doesn’t help the Doc this time, but after being robbed he knows he has to take what he can and get out of town. As he heads to California there is no way he will ever guess what will happen to him next.
WRITING:
This final issue keeps the reader guessing and in suspense of how it will end all the way until the final panel. Rafael Scavone keeps the story full of surprises and mysteries right up until the shocking ending. Scavone makes the Doctor go through a series of calamities before making it look like he will finally get his peace, only to pull the rug out from under him one final time. This gives the reader a satisfying ending as it shows that doing bad things won’t go unpunished. The ending is completely out of left field, and no one will see it coming, which makes it one of the best shocking endings of a series.
ARTWORK:
The art nails the book’s tone. Eduardo Ferigato swings from darkly funny to downright chilling, staging every beat with sharp, easy-to-follow action. The colors lock in the grit and dread. Deyvison Manes’ lettering seals it—clean pacing, clear reads, and the right punch on every moment.
