Go Big or Go Home. That is the motto of this tourney which Snyder fully embraces. Moments have to feel larger than life. Luthor’s triumphant win teases the last showdown. Before that, readers go to “game night” being interrupted by the incoming attack. The mood changes quickly as Superman picks up on something being off. It turns out his instincts are true. What catches him and the audience off guard is who he is speaking to. The reveal circles back to a character who’s involvement has been mixed with redemption and rivalry. It results in one of the more fascinating interactions in a long and painful history of one of Superman’s deadliest foes.

Doomsday has been the breakout character of this entire event. From his manipulations behind the scenes to discovering a deeper truth than expected, his role has gone in a few directions. Their dialogue in this moment sparks a greater belief than expected. It leads to the turning point of the final match. A strong gesture sends a major twist into the final fight. Readers watch as the bout doesn’t disappoint. Action crushes in every panel. Eventually, one move catches a competitor off-guard. This splinters into a interesting, but fitting blow. It may be a look unexpected but still hits’ its intended target. The fallout feels like a true reset is happening with much to be eager in seeing. Snyder nails the landing before passing reigns over to Williamson for the Epilogue.

While brief, it serves its’ purpose to tease new series and directions. It also ties back to the bond between the original trinity. The writing shows the faith behind one person’s new mission. This carries over to one last look as what’s to come. Readers walk through the dark narration to arrive at a chilling and complicated final destination. It is a more cushioned landing spot as a new era of the DCU begins now.

The art team opens with a defiant Luthor ready to assume his mantle. It is followed by a flashback to “Game Night” The two-page splash starts firing on all cylinders until the story hit the brakes. Entering Doomsday on this two page spread eludes to what is needed to finally defeat Darkseid. His mannerism feels redemption is possible to salvage the universe from Darkseid’s grasp. This is locked in for another strong visual spread. Seeing the lengths the Superman rogue is willing to go is finished off by a monster full page image. There is no turning back from here. The final bell starts the last round.

Readers watch as the new competitor enters with a great full page image. Darkseid’s evil smile offsets the new threat. This spins into a new look inside someone’s mind. The visuals hint at something monumental starting. There’s little time to savor this as the fight starts with a superb two page spread. Readers watch as this fight crosses over into many new environments. It plays into the timelines in a fresh visual look. Once that concludes, a new full image leads into the championship rounds. Blow by Blow feels enormous to the audience. This ultimately comes to a head with a perfect two-page spread of what’s laying in wait. Panels provide an adequate look at the moods winding down.

Craig takes lead on the epilogue with a few quick hits and notable characters. This doesn’t top the closing pages. One more voice steps into focus with a chilling reminder. This spins into a final; page that will have fans talking. No matter what, there’s no short-changing on what’s just transpired.

The King is Dead. Long Live a Hero. DC’s latest major event hits its’ stride with a finish you don’t want to miss. Snyder and Williamson never let up on gravity of events with the writing.
