STORY OVERVIEW:

Frank Castle takes out and burns down a warehouse being used by Russo & Quinn to weaken and send a message to them. This action gets the ire of Patty Quinn, who seeks out the services of Icebox and Reaper to kill the Punisher. Meanwhile, Matt Murdock is on a nice date when he gets an update from Foggy about the Gnucci crime family, before being interrupted by Misty who has set up a meeting with Frank. The two meet in the basement of a club to discuss working together. But before they reach an agreement the party is crashed by Icebox and Reaper. This forces the alliance between Daredevil and Punisher to survive and find out who is responsible for what’s going on.

WRITING:

This issue brings the violence and reveals key factors that will drive the story forward. Jimmy Palmiotti continues to capture the attitudes and behaviors of both of our protagonists. This gives this series a sense of familiarity and brings fans of both characters into the fold as they won’t be disappointed in how their favorite character is being portrayed. The violence and action in this issue are what we would expect from the title and deliver some real badass moments. The story does play out a little slow at times in this issue, which creates a bit of a pacing issue. The date scene seems to be just shoehorned in and feels a little out of place. Of course this may set up something for later, but in this issue it does very little. Even with this Palmiotti does an incredible job with the writing of this issue and delivering an entertaining story.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue hits the mark and depicts the story impeccably. The character designs look great and capture the essence of the characters. The backgrounds and happenings stand out and look amazing. The burning down of the warehouse and the club scenes in particular really immerse the reader into the world. The action and fight scenes don’t miss and put the reader into the middle of the action. The colors are dark and brooding which gives the art the perfect atmosphere for the story. This art team does an awesome job of bringing this story to life.
