WRITING:
Grønbekk takes Kyle into a more heroic spin of ethics than expected with this story. Her assault on Icon Towers immediately brings danger. Her inner monologue takes a unique twist to the spores outbreak claiming the city. This moves events to her intended destination. The writing shows the thirteen year old child lost in the streets with many vested parties looking to capitalize on tragedy. It results in a thrilling, yet familiar scenario with another tale going on in “Bad Seeds”.
Selina’s hunt for young Alfie Hendon borrows some themes from Cassandra Cain’s heroic attempts in “Batgirl”. When events differ is Kyle’s business approach to the job. The writing sees her refocus to getting Alfie back to Falcone, while opening up her own guarded emotions. This leads to a wild confrontation that Kyle quickly looses control of. The writing shows her adapting on the fly, allowing her to walk the fine line between hero and villain. It results in a more bittersweet ending than full victory. Perfect for such a complex character like Selina.

ART AND LETTERING:
The art excels in capturing the chaotic streets of Gotham as Alfie’s night is just starting. Many of the little mannerisms stand out as the boy is being lead in many directions. As the story shifts back to Selina’s fight at Savage’s penthouse, the fight sequences move quickly to showcase Kyle’s viciousness in combat. It slows down to allow her assessment of Savage’s home to take center stage. This allows a great pivot placement to send Catwoman into the heart of the city.
Readers witness the takeover of a convenience store become problematic with more parties trying to survive. Catwoman’s entrance is subtle but effective in establishing her point. Her mask reveal to Alfie to win trust is a great example of a quiet panel that speaks volumes. This moves events into smaller panels while weaving in the chaos taking over Gotham. The final fight is a great mix of solid action and tense drama. It forces Selina ot make some risky calls that jump from the panels. Once in the finish, a strong half panel slams the door shut on the long night while reflecting the struggles to find some shred of hope in darkness.
FINAL GRADE: 8.4
Selina Kyle has to get a young child to safety while the City falls around her in the conclusion of her “Bad Seeds” tie-in. Grønbekk throws many different looks of Kyle’s persona for readers to cypher. The art keeps a high pace as the search intensifies with each panel. A solid compliment tale for the grand event taking over Gotham City.
