The Story

Chip Zdarsky’s great run on this series continues, and it’s clearer than ever things are building to an absolute boiling point as Armageddon draws ever closer. The issue picks up exactly where the 9th issue left off and continues the same pace and even builds up the tension. The action even gets ramped up in this issue, but the political intrigue continues as strongly as ever.

Chip is doing a tremendous job building up to Armageddon because the tension you can feel building in this issue is some of the strongest I’ve read in a comic in a long time. You’ve got a LOT of forces at play in this story, and they are all bearing down on each other and it’s incredibly evident that the only outcome is going to be explosive.

The story feels like such a quintessential Cap story that it really brought a smile to my face while reading it. If you’re a fan of political spy thrillers, you’re going to love this story. Each moment of this story is tense and does not let off the tension for a single panel. There were a few twists in the story that I also was not expecting and added to the story greatly and it’s enjoyment.

Then there’s the matter of the ending, and all I have to say is oh boy. I will not spoil what it is under any certain terms, but I will say that I was surprised by it. It’s going to be interesting to see just how this is explained, and how it plays out in the future. It’s a bold step to take at this point in the story, but it’s one that could work out if done correctly.

The Artwork

Valerio Schiti & Romulo Fajardo Jr are in charge of the artwork for this issue and they both do a phenomenal job. The artwork is action packed and is as crisp as you’d expect for a Captain America issue. The level of detail in the issue is also one that I really enjoyed and led me to really look at the fine details in the panels. I also loved the use of color in the issue and how it really helped the level of detail in the panel.

Overall Grade: 9/10

The series hits a new high with a story that needs to be experienced! With twists you don’t see coming in a story that continues to excel. Together with artwork that is some of the best at the stands this week, this is a series shaping up to be a can’t miss event.
