STORY OVERVIEW:

Chronodile makes his final stand as Marshall now in his evolved Meteor Master form has him on his heels. Meteor Master gives the death blow to Chronodile finally ending this very costly battle. When the battle ends, the Capes team looks to Meteor Master to lead them as Marshall was the boss before he evolved in this form. However, now that he has evolved, he says this planet is beneath him and wants nothing to do with the team or the planet. He takes off leaving the team to clean up and bury their dead on their own. As the team rebuilds and mourns the fallen, there is now a need for a new leader. A late-night visit from an unlikely visitor sets Commander Capitalism on the path to be the new leader of Capes.

WRITING:

This issue takes care of the Chronodile challenge well setting up for where the story will go next. Robert Kirkman takes the reader through all of the emotions and feelings as we journey into the unknown with the Capes team. Kirkman hits a homerun with how he writes the Meteor Master, with him saving the day before abandoning everyone like a jerk. You get a superhero move, followed directly with a dick move and you don’t see it coming until it hits. The range of emotions that Kirkman makes the reader feel in this issue is just amazing. Not to mention the surprise return at the end of the issue, which sets up where we will be going next perfectly.

ARTWORK:

The art presented in this issue demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship, seamlessly integrating dynamic superhero action with personal moments that reveal the characters’ lives. Mark Englert has a unique approach to character design, providing each figure with both an unmistakable heroic presence and individuality. Particularly noteworthy are the authentic and emotionally resonant exchanges among the characters, which Englert renders with remarkable realism. This emotional depth serves as a distinguishing feature of the series, setting it apart from contemporaries in the current market.

Final Thoughts:

Capes #6 closes out the big threat of the Chronodile, while establishing the next hurdle the team will have to overcome. The story stays true to the fun and humorful nature of the series, well getting a bit more serious for dramatic effect. This issue was a little slower than other issues in the series, but it is needed for the story to move forward. This series is a lot of fun and still delivers a very good story with depth. Grab a copy at the shop this week and give it a shot, I promise you won’t regret it.

FINAL GRADE: 8.5/10
