STORY OVERVIEW:
Bolt gets ready at home with his family, before heading to work. Bolt’s job is at a superhero agency named Capes. As Bolt arrives at work he gets ambushed by a super villain out for revenge. He dispatches of the villain easily, but the bad news is that he is just one of many prisoners who escaped that day. So now Bolt and the other heroes have to round up the fugitives. However, there is a bigger scheme and plot brewing in the background.
WRITING:
Robert Kirkman offers a fresh perspective on superheroes in this issue, focusing not just on their extraordinary abilities, but on their everyday experiences. Much of the story is dedicated to portraying the heroes in their daily routines, both at home and in the workplace. Kirkman skillfully highlights the nuances of their personal lives, including moments with family and the unique dynamics among coworkers at the agency. These interactions provide an authentic and relatable look at what it means to be a hero outside of battle. In addition to the slice-of-life elements, Kirkman excels at weaving an overarching plot that unfolds subtly in the background. By maintaining an air of mystery, he keeps readers engaged and eager to see how the story will develop. This approach not only adds depth to the narrative but also heightens intrigue, ensuring continued interest in the series as it moves forward.
ARTWORK:
The art in this issue is really good and brings the world to life. Mark Englert does an amazing job of creating this world and immersing the reader in said world. Englert also does an awesome job with character design. The creative and unique costumes for the heroes really set them apart. The colors are bright and reflect the more joyous nature of the world.

Final Thoughts:
Capes #2 is a different kind of superhero story that draws the reader in. Showing the mundane parts of the heroes’ life takes the reader into a different area than we usually see. The interesting premise mixed with some good humor, action, and a mysterious plot line lead to an enjoyable read. This should be on everyone’s list to pick up this week at the LCS.
