STORY OVERVIEW:
Chief Amundsen calls in Corporal Middleditch and explains that he needs to lead a team to hunt down the fugitive, Blood. Middleditch is confused on how Blood was able to escape, so Amundsen explains the whole second half of the escape to him. As Middleditch is dumbfounded by how the escape went down, Amundsen reminds him how dangerous Blood truly is. He then explains that there is another wrinkle to this escape and that’s the Exo’s on the planet are looking at Blood like a folk hero. This will make it hard for them to capture her if she gets to the underside.
WRITING:
Once again Benito Cereno finds an innovative way to tell the second half of Blood’s escape from prison. Using Chief Amundsen to tell the story to Middleditch on its own creates a bit of suspense. But the bigger thing it brings to the table is the side comments and pauses in the story. This creates some humor and entertainment in the form of the side comments. Well, the pauses allow for extra details to be added in while not making the issue drawn out and longer. This keeps the story and issue concise and makes it easy to follow for the reader. Making Blood wanted by the IPPF, as well as some criminals that have a grudge up the risks for her and her survival. Meanwhile, the folk hero to the Exo’s continues the messaging of this whole series, which is important to keep in the forefront.
ARTWORK:
Blood & Thunder continues to stand out visually thanks to E.J. Su’s detailed and imaginative artwork. His character work and world-building give the issue a strong sense of scale, while the action remains clean, dynamic, and easy to follow. Msassyk’s bold color work adds even more energy, sharpening the mood and amplifying the story’s emotional weight. Once again, the art team delivers a strong visual experience that elevates the issue.
