Space is a complicated place.
Emperor T’Challa of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda has wound up on a mysterious planet. He is crossing paths with hybrid versions of himself and others from the MCU. Shuri and a young boy named Femi have not arrived on the same planet. The first being they see? A hybrid of T’Challa and the Juggernaut!
If that isn’t wild enough, how about another “T’Challa” running around on Wakanda Prime with an agenda all his own!
BLACK PANTHER: INTERGALACTIC #3 by Victor LaValle, Stefano Nesi, Bryan Valenza &Ariana Maher runs directly into the drama with its’ latest chapter.
Let’s take a closer look at what the heck is going on now!
BLACK PANTHER: INTERGALACTIC #3 by Victor LaValle, Stefano Nesi, Bryan Valenza & Ariana Maher (Marvel Comics)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
LaValle juggle many plots with this latest chapter. The “other” T’Challa presents his case before the Intergalactic Empire with a unique proposition. There’s a sense that he’s already tipped his hand into being up to no good with this notion. Meanwhile on Planet B’Wete, the action leads off events. The real T’Challa is handling Spider-Hybrids while trying to piece events together. Readers watch as this starts forming a better picture of events. Someone is trying to talk T’Challa out but why in this fashion.
Shuri’s plot is very brief for this chapter. Her run-in with this “Juggernaut” is stopped abruptly. The writing teases more importance from Femi than is originally thought. It serves as a good transition point for the other “T’Challa” to come to the Planet. The questions of his fate seem to align with the reigning king. Readers watch as other hybrids are taken out to move events towards the final round. The closing pages throw another twist into the story. It is a lot to digest with one chapter left. Hopefully, there’s some definitive closure that will take place.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!
Nesi and Valenza do a superb job with the visuals here. The opening full shot of T’Challa in action sends a loud message. This pace moves forward as the truth about his opponents appear to come to life. The other T’Challa’s proposal is given an incredible two page splash. Another jump leads into Shuri and Femi. Their encounter with the Juggernaut teases more drama. It only takes a few words to calm events down before another character takes the spotlight.
There’s plenty of action sequences to appease readers. This has been the issue’s strong suit. Once the other T’Challa arrives, he is given a full page recap of his work. Taking out hybrids of the X-Men villains serves to give some credibility into his forthcoming challenge. T’Challa’s last encounter this chapter is arguably the easiest transition point to another character this chapter. The previous ones felt rushed and forced due to cast size. The closing pages explain a loose thread lingering in the book. It serves to provide a very strong final page. The full image teases one direction but leaves enough mystery for the next chapter to fill.
FINAL GRADE: 8
The pen-ultimate Intergalactic chapter stumbles in flow before getting to its’ final destination. LaValle’s writing gives fair time to the cast, but suffers from abrupt story switches. Nesi and Valenza weave the growing drama through solid action scenes. There’s a lot of moving parts to cypher through with the finale looking to provide much needed resolutions.
